I would say definitely start as early as possible getting the paperwork done especially if you have to save up money. The process wasn’t expected to be easy but she’s been going through the worst hell. She had to get letters written from employers and professors stating any possible way her ADHD affected her work and a slew of other things. She had to go through a separate provider to evaluate her that she ended up having to pay out of pocket (many were giving her estimations of $3,000+ but she ended up finding one who charged her $2,000+). AAMC is not very friendly in the process at all. So, as someone with ADHD, I have not applied for accommodations but one of my close friends is going through the process now. Anyone else with experience with computer induced migraines, PCS/MTBI or sit/stand desk accommodations on here? I hope you’re able to get the support you need. I’m still in rehab, physical and cognitive. Working on this and the computer screen induced migraine headache with an evaluator who originally saw me post most recent mTBI for cognitive rehab years ago, in 2016. helped me dial it back but this took a couple of weeks. After I took my first 1/2 diagnostic and sat through it i could barely walk without a limp and lots of help - pain meds, patches, acupuncture etc. In my previous career in film on set I didn’t have to sit almost ever except for travel: meds, pain patches, acupuncture, yoga, medical massage (oweee!) and breaks kept me sane and managed the pain. At home post covid I’m on a treadmill at my standing desk all day long. I sat in classes and then got up and walked/stood the rest of the day in post bacc premed. I don’t sit almost ever and have not for YEARS. I’m in a similar but different boat with post concussion syndrome and “sitting disability” - for realz y’all. I’m very curious about how this will go down and hope they will give me sit/stand option as well as breaks and 2 days. I’m in the process of paying for an evaluator and getting new diagnostics mostly out of pocket myself for MTBI/PCS and sitting disability.
